I was first introduced to Skype some three years ago but, I have to admit, didn’t use it much because I didn’t know many other people who did. Yeah, I know now, I should have been recruiting friends (bad customer evangelist, no biscuit).
Now they are getting into what they call Skypecasts - basically VOIP conference calls - which are a fantastic alternative to high priced pay-per-minute 800 services for Webinars. Heck, your webinar attendees are already at their computers; get them on Skype! An added bonus is that you can record the audio for downloads.

Oh, and for non-computer based conferences, check out FreeConference. We used this extensively in our early years and I have a great deal of affection for them.
