Session 2 was Playing with the Blogosphere - BL’s session. The other speaker was a gentleman from the Netherlands Tourism Board. I should have taken better notes but I was so busy listening, I forgot to write. Apparently, all the sessions were recorded, though, so I’ll get a second chance. I did come away with the following:

  • If you have something worth talking about, making sure the blogosphere is aware of what you have is an effecient way to spread the word.
  • Control freaks need not apply. The blogging community will do and say what they feel is right and that’s mostly going to be to your benefit… if you have something worth talking about.
  • The serious bloggers, and most of the rest of the blogging community, are amazingly articulate, self-regulating, intelligent, and fair.
  • Marketing via blogs can be amazingly cost-effective because the readers of a blog are there because they are already interested in the subject matter. This results in better conversion rates.
  • Engaged readers are better targets and one of the best methods of engagement is giving the readers some ownership - i.e. allowing user-generated content.
  • Make sure you respect your readers’ privacy and get their permission. Don’t abuse your readers because they will go away - or they just might tar and feather you.
  • Last, people love a mystery and they love hunts and puzzles; the tougher, the better.
I have two more sessions to write up but I plan to take my laptop tomorrow since they have wifi all over the place. I can probably get some writing done on the train, too. (Hmm, I didn’t scope out power outlets - wonder how my battery will hold up.)
